Families |
 |
Three years ago we initiated a help program to these fami- |
 |
| lies that
live on the periphery of our city
This way we are |
| also able to
understand and share a little of this hard rea- |
| lity.
Weekly, we take vegetables, greens, fruit, cereals and |
| clothes
that arrive through donations that are given to our |
| family. The Lord has multiplies
everything we received to |
| the point that today we help up to 42 needy families.
We realise that there is still so much
to be done but, the |
| fact that we work with these families in a preventive manner, stimulating
and strengthening family life, the chil- |
| dren's
studies and offering albeit just the minimum sustenance
tomeach of these persons, we are able to dream |
| of a better future for them.
We have faith in the power of prayer, but also recognise that we
must also act ! |

The pleasure we have in helping children is already being limited by a |
| lack of space in our Shelter home. |
| In order that we could help Margarida and her children, we had to create room in our |
| home,
for the Shelter Home cannot accommodate another person.
Margarida and her |
| children were sleeping in the streets of our city , so we decided
to try and help them. |
| She arrived on the 28th February (Carnaval time) and since then we have tried to |
| solve her problem. |
| Today, 6th March 2003, we took her to see the Children's Welfare authority in order to find a permanent solution. |

| Maria de Fatima, and her children were sleeping in the stre- |

The rain destroyed her house. She doesn't |
| have conditions
of supporting the children. |
