| The Lord has a special purpose for each one of us and it is important that you |
| understand this in your heart.
The following account is about the arrival of Rai- |
| ane, a child of only one year and three momnths. (9/2003). All of the facts and |
|
 |
photos exhibited are provided for the sole purpose of showing
the faithfulness |
 |
| and love that the Lors shows to all of us. He is the God whom we meet just |
| where we are; He is a very present help to us all.
On the 11th September we |
| arrived home after 10 o'clock at night. Later, we
received a telephone call from |
|
| a person who requested help for a child called
Raine.
This child was being medically examined in the Legal Medi- |
| cal Institute who was
trying to find a place where she could be cared for. The medical examination was carried |
| out in a neighbouring town called Santa Luzia. The examination showed that she had been very badly beaten. |
| Her body was covered in bruises and she had many cigarette burns on her body. There was also evidence of ol- |
| der bruising all over her torso.
The Doctor who attended Raine telephoned the Child Welfare Council to inform |
the
1 authorities of the child's condition. Raiane was taken from her mother and the
Council contacted us, re- |
| questing that we received her into our Shelter Home.
We agreed to accept her and she was lovingly accepted |
| by our two biological daughters
Paiane arrived and appeared to be very frightened, but it wasn't long before |
| she
gave a lovely smile to Sofia and from there seemed to start a friendship between the two children. Once a- |
| gain
we are having the opportunity to make a difference in the life of one more person.

Felipe and Carine |

| Do you remember Felipe and Carine?
They are very well and are gradually re- |
| cuperating. They arrived in
January/04 with their mother, Maria de Fatima. Fe- |
| lipe,who was the most timid,has started to smile a little and
Carine, who is much |
|
| different
to her brother, has not stopped smiling since she arrived. So the days pass and there is nothing better |
| that time to heal wounded hearts.
Filipe is still having medical treatment. He had complications with the healing |
| of his wounds, but in general, is very well now. The
mother of these children is also having treatment. She has |
| to live
in another shelter-home. She is going on well and visits her children when she can.
We know that very |
| soon, these children will return to their
mother's care. This is the is the main purpose of Shelter Home happy |
| People - to function as a helpful instrument to the children of our society. |

| Do you remember Jefferson? On the 28th August 2001,Jeffer- |
| son entered our ShelterHome
"Happy People" for the first time. |
| He had been beaten with a heavy wooden truncheon and had a |
|
| fractured leg
On the 29th October 2003, we received him again but this time, accompanied by his sister. |
